We are delighted that over 200 churches have signed up to take part. (Take a look at our map, to find out which churches in your area are involved.) This is an amazing opportunity to draw attention the unacceptably high number of children who are waiting for adoption in the UK. It’s also an opportunity to stand with those who already adopt or foster, to celebrate our adoption into God’s family, and to encourage people to consider if fostering and adoption is for them.

Here are some highlights. Please Tweet us (@home4gd / #adoptionsunday), send us a Facebook message (facebook.com/home4gd), or email us, with stories of what you are doing today – along with quotes, photos and your highlights! We hope to update these highlights throughout this morning, and we will also be writing lots of stories over the coming days!

  • Research released today by First4Adoption reveals that 55% of people who are seriously thinking about adopting describe themselves as ‘actively practicing religion. (Read more)
  • The Children’s Minister, Edward Timpson MP, will be at an Adoption Sunday service at West Street Christian Fellowship, which is in his constituency.
  • Amie Aitken will launch her debut EP, “Audience of One”. Next year, she will be touring the UK, telling her story, making sure people know about Home for Good and encouraging people to consider providing a home for good for a child who desperately needs one. To find out more visit her website amieaitken.com. (We just heard that Diane-Louise Jordan played it on her show this morning on BBC Radio 2.)
  • Over 30 BBC local radio stations will be featuring Adoption Sunday.
  • St Mary’s Longfleet, near Poole, will be releasing 250 balloons (don’t worry, they’re special biodegradable ones!) representing the children that are in care in their area.
  • 25,000 prayer bookmarks will be given out.

If you’re not able to be at a special Adoption Sunday service this morning but would like to have an informal chat with someone about your question about adoption, phone 0300 222 5950. This service is provided by First4Adoption on behalf of Home for Good.
